FAQ
What makes up a car registration renewal?
A base registration fee (flat, by weight, value or horsepower depending on the state), small state and county fees, any electric or hybrid surcharge, and in some states a yearly value-based tax.
Why is the EV fee so high?
Several states charge electric cars a yearly fee in place of the gas tax they don't pay. EV and hybrid fees by state.
Estimates of government taxes and fees from official sources; your DMV or county calculates the final amount; not tax or legal advice. Every figure is taken from an official state page (quoted and dated in the sources) and can change. Dealer-set fees are not government fees. Exemptions are described, never applied for you: check the official rule and form.
